Matthew Walter is a Senior Data Analyst in Institutional Research and Analytics, where he develops reporting, analytics, and automated data solutions that support university planning and decision-making. His work focuses on data accuracy, process improvement, and translating complex operational data into clear, reliable information.
Before joining the office, Matt spent 17 years in Student Financial Services at Pitt. As a Business Intelligence and Process Analyst, he built Tableau reporting tools for leadership and front-line staff, developed Alteryx workflows and web applications that automated manual processes, and designed and maintained PeopleSoft tuition-calculation configuration and business rules used to assess tuition and fees.
Matt combines deep institutional knowledge with extensive experience in PeopleSoft, SQL, Tableau, Cognos, Alteryx, and data modeling. He earned a Bachelor of Arts, a Certificate in Information Systems Design, and a Master of Data Science from the University of Pittsburgh, where his graduate work included data visualization, predictive modeling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
